About Charles B. Goodwin, M.D.

Dr. Charles Goodwin specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the cervical and lumbar spine. He works with rehabilitation specialists and pain management doctors, focusing on non-operative techniques such as physical therapy, spine injections and restorative medicine. If conservative treatment fails, he performs, when indicated, adult reconstructive cervical and lumbar spine surgery, emphasizing minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Goodwin has performed arthroscopic surgery since the late 1970s. Since 1994, he has been certified in arthroscopic microdiscectomy. He developed the instrumentation for and performed the first endoscopic spine fusion in 2001 – noted in The Wall Street Journal. Since then, he has performed about 1,000 endoscopic and minimally invasive posterior fusions. Recently, he developed and patented an access system and implants for minimally invasive lateral lumbar fusions.

He was a team orthopedic physician for the New York Mets, the team physician for the New York Lizzards lacrosse team, the orthopedic physician for US Open Tennis, an orthopedic physician for US Open Golf and now head physician for the Tournament of Champion squash, the premier tournament in professional squash.

Dr. Goodwin has served as Chairman of the Professional Liability and Defense board for New York State. He is presently a consultant for the U.S. Department of Defense.
